Three Golden Eagles Named Fall Skyline Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Year

New York, NY| Three St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) student-athletes were named Fall 2021 Scholar-Athletes of the Year when the Skyline Conference released its end-of-season academic honors on Monday.

Juniors Abbey Curcio (women's soccer) and Matt Lopez (men's cross country), and freshman Melanie Walsh (women's cross country) were among the honored in their respective sports. The Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award is presented in each sport to the first-team All-Skyline performer who carries the highest grade point average (minimum 3.30) for the semester in which the student-athlete competes.

Curcio led the Golden Eagles and finished fourth in the conference with 26 points on a team-best nine goals and eight assists. The midfielder was named Skyline Offensive Player of the Week twice and landed in the top three of the conference averaging just over five shots per game.

Lopez finished third at the Skyline Conference Championships after claiming four Runner of the Week honors during the season. Walsh took sixth at the Championships and helped power the Golden Eagles to a conference championship.
