Softball Picks Up First Win of Season Against Beloit, 5-3

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) softball team takes down Beloit for the first victory of the 2023 season.     

Key Players:
  • Sophomore Emily Fenezia finished the game with one hit on and two walks while scoring two runs 

  • Freshman Antonia Busa recorded two RBIs to go along with one hit and one run

  • Junior Riley Lim-Ellis added one hit on two plate appearances with two RBIs

  • Freshman Adrianna Ciancuielli provided one hit on her lone plate appearance 

  • Maddie Moser of Beloit College  totaled one hit, one run, and one RBI

How it happened:
  • The first two innings were scoreless until Fenezia reached first on an error followed by Busa reaching first on an error as well, leading to a Lim-Ellis single bringing in the first run of the game

  • The Golden Eagles would continue the scoring output in the third inning as Julia Ruocchio had a flyout to shortstop allowing Busa to score and Lim-Ellis to advance to second

  • The Buccaneers would get in the scoring column in the fifth as a walk an error and a stolen base would put runners in scoring position allowing a score to run on a wild pitch

  •  A double from Jess Cope would score another run for Beloit tying the game at two apiece entering the bottom of the fifth 

  • The Golden Eagles would score a run in the bottom of the fifth pulling ahead, prior to a Beloit homerun tying the game again at three entering the bottom of the sixth 

  • With two out and runners in scoring position Antonia Busa doubled to center field allowing two runs to score and securing the victory for St. Joseph's 

Notes:
  • The Golden Eagles tallied six hits while the Buccaneers tallied five hits

  • SJLI only recorded two errors compared to Beloit's five 

  • St. Joseph's pitching accounted for 9 total strikeouts
