Softball Sweeps Yeshiva on Tuesday

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) softball team swept Yeshiva in a pair of Skyline Conference matchups on Tuesday evening.

Game One SJLI 24, Yeshiva 0:
Key Players:
  • Junior Riley Lim-Ellis was a perfect 5-5 at the plate, to go along with four runs scored and four RBIs

  • Sophomore Mariah Salvatto recorded four hits on four plate appearances all while adding six RBIs and four runs scored 

  • Junior Julia Ruocchio totaled four hits, two RBIs, and three runs scored, and pitched a perfect game through five innings 

  • Junior Kate Kiernan tallied four hits, three runs scored, and three RBIs

  • Freshman Antonia Busa had three hits, four runs scored, and one RBI

How it happened:
  • The Golden Eagles opened the game with a strong offensive output scoring a total of 10 runs, highlighted by a Lim-Ellis double to left center that saw three runs scored. 

  • St. Joseph's would score an additional two runs in the second inning before they were able to score four more runs in the top of the third with four different hitters recording an RBI

  • In the fourth inning, Salvatto added a two-RBI double down the left-field line before an RBI single courtesy of Kiernan closed out the inning 

  • SJLI scored four more runs in the final inning of the game where Salvatto hit a grand slam over the left field wall to secure the 24-0 victory 

Game two SJLI 22, Yeshiva 0:
Key Players:
  • Junior Sam Dimezza went 3-5 at the plate, with one run scored and three RBIs

  • Junior Julia Ruocchio recorded three hits, four runs scored, and two RBIs

  • Junior Riley Lim-Ellis added three hits, three runs scored, and one RBI

  • Sophomore Caitlyn Rodriguez totaled three hits, five runs scored, and two RBIs

  • Freshman Kimberly Ehman tallied two hits, three runs scored, and two RBIs

  • Sophomore Mariah Salvatto contributed two hits, two runs scored, and three RBIs 

How it happened:
  • In the first inning, the Golden Eagles put the pressure on early as they totaled eight runs scored, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Salvatto

  • The following inning St. Joseph's would follow the same output and brought home five runs to score, as five different hitters would collect an RBI

  • A Dimezza single up the middle in the third brought home Rodriguez to score before an error on behalf of the Maccabees saw another run score 

  • As the Golden Eagles entered the fourth inning with a 16-run advantage, Salvatto would double into right-center driving in LIm-Ellis to score, as Adrianna Cianciuelli and Ehman would both collect RBIs later in the inning 

  • The final inning saw the SJLI drive in four more runs to close out the game taking game two, 22-0

Next up, the Golden Eagles head out on the road where they take on Old Westbury in a Skyline Conference matchup on Saturday, May 6, at 12:00 pm.
