Softball Finishes Regular Season With a Pair Victories over Sarah Lawrence

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) softball picks up a sweep in a Skyline Conference matchup with Sarah Lawrence on Sunday afternoon.

Game One SJLI 9, Sarah Lawrence 2:
Key Players:
  • Freshman Antonia Busa led the Golden Eagles with four hits on five at-bats and two RBIs

  • Junior Riley Lim-Ellis was a perfect 4-4 at the plate and finished with three RBIs

  • Sophomore Emily Fenezia added two hits, two runs scored, and one RBI

  • Senior Emily Bazarewski totaled three hits and two runs scored 

  • Junior Madison DiPalo tallied one hit, three runs scored, and two RBIs

  • Junior Katie Kiernan had 5.1 innings pitched allowing no runs and just two hits, while striking out six

  • Maeve Collins and Isabella Zuniga of the Gryphons each had one hit and one RBI

How it happened:
  • The first inning remained scoreless between both teams before the Gryphons scored a run on a walk when the bases were loaded, moments before Zuniga hit an RBI single to left field bringing the lead to 2-0

  • In the following inning, the Golden Eagles would respond as Busa would hit an RBI single bringing home DiPalo to score who reached first on an error earlier in the inning

  •  St. Joseph's entered the fourth inning down a run until Sam Dimezza hit a single to the pitcher that brought home Bazarewski, tying the game at two

  • Moments later a DiPalo single to left field saw Dimezza come home to score, and a Lim-Ellis double to left field brought home two more runs to score in the top of the fourth

  • Entering the top of the fifth SJLI would score two runs on a pair of errors on behalf of Sarah Lawrence that saw Bazarewski and DiPalo score, which led to a Lim-Ellis RBI single to right field 

  • In the top of the seventh inning the Golden Eagles would find home plate one last time when Busa hit an RBI single that saw Kimberly Ehamn score the final run securing the 9-2 victory

Game two SJLI 10, Sarah Lawrence 2:
Key Players:
  • Senior Emily Bazarewski guided the Golden Eagles with two hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs 

  • Senior Elena Serio finished with one hit, one run scored, and one RBI

  • Junior Kate Kiernan had five innings pitched allowing just five hits, while also going 2-3 at the plate with one run scored and three RBIs

  • Sophomore Emily Fenezia went 2-3 at the plate with two runs scored

  • The Gryphon's Anna Brand and Emily Leonard each totaled two hits and one RBI

How it happened:
  • The first inning remained scoreless for both teams, until the second inning where St. Joseph's scored the first run of the game courtesy of a Kiernan single to center field allowing Busa to score

  • Moments later Bazarewski would hit a two-RBI single that allowed the batter to advance to second on an error building the lead to 3-0

  • In the top of the third inning, Kiernan again would provide SJLI with a big hit when the pitcher hit a two-RBI double bringing home Lim-Ellis and Busa

  • A DiPalo single saw Julia Ruocchio and Serio score for the Golden Eagles bringing the lead to 8-0 in the top of the fourth

  • The Gryphons scored their first run of the game when Leonard hit an RBI single to left field 

  • St. Joseph's would respond when Caitlyn Rodriguez singled allowing Bazareski to come home and score, Sarah Lawrence's Brand hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth but it was not enough as SJLI finished with a 10-2 victory
