Softball Swept by Baruch on Sunday

Baruch College, 4-4, 0-0 CUNYAC

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) softball team suffered two losses to Baruch College on Sunday afternoon.

Game One:
Key Players:
  • Freshman Antonia Busa went 2-4 at the plate with two singles

  • Junior Emily Bazarewski recorded two hits with four at-bats while recording one RBI

  • Sophomore Kate Kiernan added one run scored, one RBI, with one hit 

  • Carly Quint of the Bearcats totaled two hits with four at-bats while contributing three RBIs and one run scored 

  • Danielle Petrunti and Julia Cuttone each provided Baruch College with two hits and one run scored  

How it happened:
  • As the first inning was scoreless, Baruch found the scoring column in the top of the second as two runs scored 

  • In the top of the sixth inning, a Quint double would bring in one run to score, as another run would be scored later in the inning due to an error 

  • Baruch would see another double from Quint bringing in two more runs to score in the top of the seventh inning  

  • St. Joseph's would finally score as a single up the middle from Kiernan would bring in one run

  • SJLI would build off the momentum as a groundout would bring another run to score, as Bazarewski would single to center field bringing in the final run to score of the game 

Game two:
Key Players:
  • Sophomore Riley Lim-Ellis contributed two hits on four at-bats with two RBIs, and two runs scored 

  • Freshman Antonia Busa added three hits, to go along with one RBI and one run scored  

  • Junior Julia Ruocchio went 2-4  at the plate hitting a triple into right field and bringing in two runs to score

  • Sophomore Mariah Salvatto recorded two hits on three at-bats with two RBIs

  • Megan Bell of Baruch College provided three hits on three at-bats with two runs scored and two RBIs

  • The Bearcats' Milagros Arias totaled two hits, one RBI and one run scored 

How it happened:
  • The game opened up scoreless in the first inning until the top of the second inning saw the Bearcats score five runs highlighted by a leadoff double from Arias

  • Baruch would again score in the top of the third inning as a single to third base from Bell brought one run in to score 

  • The Golden Eagles go on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when Ruocchio tripled to right field bringing home two runs to score cutting the lead to 6-2

  • St. Joseph's would go on a scoring run of their own in the bottom of the fourth scoring a total of five runs, as Salvatto singled to left field bringing two runs home

  • The Bearcats would respond in the later innings of the game as they would score seven more runs to secure their second victory of the day
