The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) softball team drops two Skyline Conference matchups to Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon.

Game One SJLI 2, Old Westbury 11:
Key Players:
  • Sophomore Emily Fenezia recorded one hit on three plate appearances while adding one run scored 

  • Junior Julia Ruocchio totaled one hit and one RBI

  • Junior Madison DiPalo tallied one hit and one run scored

  • Natalie Intrieri led the Panthers going 3-3 at the plate, also providing two runs scored and two RBIs

  • Old Westbury's Julia Pastrana added two hits, two runs scored, and one RBI

  • Madison Danin accumulated two hits, two RBIs and one run scored  

How it happened:
  • The Panthers wasted no time scoring run, with Alaina Riley hitting a double to right center that saw Intrieri come in score the game's first run

  • In the second inning, Intrieri again contributed to the scoring effort when the center fielder recorded an RBI single to left-center 

  • The Golden Eagles rallied in the third inning when Riley Lim-Ellis got on base via a bunt which led the runners advancing and DiPalo scoring on a throwing error

  • A Ruocchio single up the middle moments later brought in Fenezia to score tying the game at two apiece

  • Entering the fifth inning with the game tied an RBI single from Pastrana gave the Panthers the lead

  • As the inning unfolded Old Westbury was scoring in bunches with a number of walks allowing runners to advance home a Danin home run over the left-center wall scored two runs to end the inning securing the 11-2 victory

Game two SJLI 8, Old Westbury 9:
Key Players:
  • Sophomore Emily Fenezia led the Golden Eagles with three hits, three runs scored, and one RBI

  • Junior Julia Ruocchio was very steady at the plate going 3-4, with one run scored and two RBIs

  • Junior Riley Lim-Ellis added two hits, one run scored, and one RBI

  • Freshman Antonia Busa totaled one hit, two runs scored, and one RBI

  • The Panther's Jenna Gaspa was 3-4 at the plate with one run scored and two RBIs

  • Ava Hoffman of Old Westbury tallied one hit, one RBI and one run scored

How it happened:
  • St. Joseph's led off the game with their offense in a flow as Fenezia and Busa both got on base early, with Busa stealing second leading to Fenezia scoring on a passed ball

  • Later in the inning a Salvatto sacrifice bunt advanced runners and brought in Busa to score an additional run

  • In the second inning, the Golden Eagles kept the scoring run going with a Fenezia single off a bunt that brought in DiPalo to score, moments later a Lim-Ellis double drove in Fenezia building their lead to 4-0

  • The Panthers responded in the bottom of the second inning when Angelina Fernandez recorded a sacrifice fly to centerfield scoring one run

  • Both teams remained scoreless in the third and fourth inning before a Busa double to left field drove in Fenezia to score 

  • Moments later Ruocchio would record an RBI single to center field, allowing Busa to score and an error committed by Old Westbury allowed Rucchio to score to close out the inning

  • The Panthers entered the bottom of the fifth inning down 7-1, as they were able to rally to bring home seven runs, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Gaspa and another two-RBI single from Jessica Tucci taking an 8-7 lead 

  • In the top of the seventh Ruocchio would double to right center bringing home Lim-Ellis to score tying the game at 8 

  • As the game entered extra innings, Old Westbury's Hoffman walked it off with an RBI double to right center in the bottom of the eighth taking game two 9-8
