Softball Opens Conference Play With Loses to MSMC

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) softball team opened up conference play with two losses to Mount Saint Mary College on Sunday afternoon.

Game One:
Key Players:
  • Junior Riley Lim-Ellis recorded one hit on three at-bats for the Golden Eagles 

  • Sophomore Mariah Salvatto added one hit with two plate appearances 

  • Junior Michaela Andriola and freshman Antonia Busa each scored one run for SJLI

  • Olivia Ferara of the Knights totaled one hit on two at-bats with two runs scored and two RBIs

  • Alicia Killeen and Paige Shrimpton each tallied two hits while scoring one run with Kileen also contributing two RBIs 

How it happened:
  • The Knights opened the game with one run scored in the first inning as Samantha Bendig reached on an error allowing Ferara to score

  • The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when Mount Saint Mary racked together eight total runs increasing their lead, to 9-0

  • In the bottom of the fourth the Golden Eagles finally got on the scoreboard as Kate Kiernan reached first base on an error allowing Antonia Busa and Michaela Andriola to score

  • A single through the left side from the Knights would bring in another run to score prior to Shrimpton hitting a SAC fly as the MSMC scored their final run of the game securing the 11-2 victory

Game two:
Key Players:
  • Junior Julia Ruocchio went 2-3 at the plate, with two singles 

  • Senior Emily Basarewski paced the Golden Eagle with two hits with a double in the first inning

  • Freshman Kimberly Ehman was a steady 2-3 at the plate while recording a stolen base 

  • The Knights' Sophia Reed finished the game with two hits while recording an RBI

  • Kaeli McAnally added two hits, one run scored, and one RBI for Mount Saint Mary's 

How it happened:
  • In the first and second inning, the game was scoreless until Riley Norwood of MSMC reached first on an error allowing Laura Dentato to score 

  • Mount Saint Mary College would again score two runs when Killeen hit a two-RBI single to left center increasing the Knights' lead to 3-0

  • The sixth inning had MSMC score another two runs when Jenna Cedano singled up the middle allowing one run to score followed by Sophia Reed hitting a sacrifice fly to right field and runners scoring on an error 

  • McAnally would hit a double in the final inning bringing home the final run to score for the game securing another victory for the Knights

Next up, the Golden Eagles prepare for a non-conference matchup at home against John Jay on Saturday, April 6, at 12:00 pm.
