Softball Falls to CMSV on Senior Day

When and Where:

April 15, 2023 - Patchogue, NY

St. Joseph's (L.I.), 1-13, 0-4 Skyline 

College of Mt. St. Vincent, 15-6, 4-0 Skyline

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) softball team falls in back-to-back matchups with the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon.

Game One:
Key Players:
  • Junior Julia Ruocchio was 3-4 at the plate, recording one run scored and four RBIs

  • Sophomore Mariah Salvatto was a perfect 3-3 at the plate and provided one RBI

  • Junior Emily Fenezia added one hit on two plate appearances while scoring three runs

  • Senior Elena Serio totaled two hits and tallied one RBI

  • Senior Emily Bazarewski contributed one hit and one run scored 

  • Jocelyn Vega of the Dolphins went 2-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs

  • Madyson Epps recorded two hits, two runs scored, and one RBI

How it happened:
  • The game remained scoreless until the top of the third inning where Jocelyn Vega would triple to left center bringing home three runs 

  • The Golden Eagles would respond in the bottom half of the inning when Ruocchio would hit a single that would see two runs score 

  • In the bottom of the fourth inning, Ruocchio would again single down the rf line allowing two runs to score again tying the game at four apiece

  • Serio would hit a single up the middle in the same inning bringing home Ruocchio and giving St. Joseph's the lead

  • A Vega home run in the top of the fifth would tie the game at five until the Dolphins would take advantage of an error by SJLI taking the lead 6-5 in the top of the sixth 

  • A Salvatto single to left field in the bottom of the sixth saw Fenezia score and tie the game until Epps of CMSV singled bringing in one run in the top of the seventh taking the lead and securing the victory for the Dolphins 

Game two:
Key Players:
  • Sophomore Mariah Salvatto would hit a home run over the left field wall, securing a hit, one run scored, and an RBI

  • Freshman Adrianna Ciancuielli recorded a hit 

  • Sophomore Cailyn Rodriguez added one hit on one plate appearance 

  • Juniors Julia Ruocchio and Emily Fenezia would also total one hit

  • Katie Hutter of the Dolphins was 2-3 at the plate with two runs scored and two runs batted in

  • Nichole Reyes had one hit on three plate appearances to go along with one RBI and one run scored 

  • Mayson Epps tallied one hit and two runs scored 

How it happened:
  • The Dolphins started the game in a flow early as in the top of the first inning they would score four runs, on SJLI's errors and a single through the left side

  • In the top of the second, the Dolphins kept the pressure on with Hutter hitting a triple to right center bringing home two runs and a sacrifice flyout from Simone Caruso allowing Hutter to score 

  • Mt. St. Vincent would go on to score an additional three runs on an SJLI error and a double to left field which saw two runs batted in

  • In the bottom of the fourth the Golden Eagles' Salvatto hit a home run to left field cutting the lead to 10-1 

Next up, the Golden Eagles prepare for a Skyline Conference match-up against Manhattanville College on Sunday, April 16 at 12:00 pm.
