Volleyball Opens Season at TLC Bulldog Challenge

Seguin, TX| The St. Joseph's College women's volleyball team opened its 2019 season with four matches at the TLC Bulldog Challenge hosted by Texas Lutheran College this weekend. The Golden Eagles fell to Sul Ross State 3-1 and McMurry University 3-0 on Friday before dropping a pair of contests to Louisiana College and Howard Payne University both by a score of 3-0 on Saturday.

Sul Ross 3, SJC 0 (25-15, 25-23, 16-25, 25-18)

Sophomore Amanda Goldstein led the Golden Eagles with 10 kills, three blocks, and three block assists. Junior Jessica Young pitched in with eight kills and Melanie O'Hoppe and Kaitlin Williams provided seven kills apiece.

Setter Brionna Silva dished a game-high 25 assists with senior libero Danielle Senecal collecting a game-best 18 digs.

McMurry 3, SJC 0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-17)

Lousiana College 3, SJC 0 (25-18, 31-29, 27-25)

Young led the way for the Golden Eagles with nine kills. The middle hitter added five blocks and three digs. Williams finished with eight kills and eight digs.

Silva tossed 26 assists with Senecal recording 19 digs and two service aces.

Howard Payne 3, SJC 0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-19)

In the final match of the weekend, Goldstein finished with a team-high nine kills and a .571 hitting percentage. Williams pitched in with eight kills and a pair of service aces.

Silva recorded a game-high 24 assists and added five digs. Senecal came away with a game-best 10 digs.

The Golden Eagles host its home-opener at the Danzi Center on Saturday, September 7 and take on Western Connecticut State and Penn St.-Abington at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm, respectively.
