Women's Soccer Shuts Out Maritime for Second Conference Victory

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) women's soccer team remains undefeated in Skyline Conference play with a 2-0 victory against Maritime on Saturday.

Top performers

• Junior Brooke Esposito led the Golden Eagles with two shots on goal and one goal scored 

• Freshman Gabriela Saravia totaled one goal scored on one shot on goal

• Sophomore Emily Farrington contributed two assists in the match

• Devon Etienne of the Privateers recorded seven saves facing nine shots on goal

How it happened

• The Golden Eagles looked to strike early as a through ball sent Trista Buck down the right side, where the defender fired a shot toward the right post that saw Etienne make the save

• It was the 24th minute when SJLI opened up the scoring column as Carli LoNigro crossed the ball into the box that found the head of Farrington, where it was saved on the goal line before Esposito put it away in the back of the net

• In the 63 minute, Farrington would find space for a cross into the box that found the foot of Saravia, where the freshman got it past the keeper to give St. Joseph's the 2-0, advantage

• St. Joseph's finished with 15 shots compared to Maritime's two

• The Golden Eagles tallied eight corner kicks 

• Each team was assessed one yellow card
