Women's Soccer Ends Regular Season With Shutout Victory

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) women's soccer team ended the regular season with a 3-0 victory over Purchase on Tuesday evening.

Top performers

• Seniors Ana Lombardo and Julia Cruz each recorded one goal 

• Freshman Nicole DeCanio added one goal

• Junior Emma Furey tallied one assist

• Sophomores Alyssa Schimmenti and Jenna Ruffini finished with one assist each

• Carolyn Hough of the Panthers secured a game-high 19 saves on 22 shots faced

How it happened

• Just four minutes into action, the Golden Eagles capitalized off a corner kick when Furey played it into the box, finding the head of Cruz to pull ahead early 

• At the 30-minute mark, Furey looked to build upon SJLI's lead as the forward fired a shot into the top right corner of the goal but was turned away by Hough

• Early into the second half, the Golden Eagles would collect for shots on goal in a two-minute span, but the Panthers were able to hold off the attack, keeping the game within one

• St. Joseph's would add to their lead in the 75th minute as Schimmenti crossed the ball from the left side into the box, where Lombardo was waiting to put it into the back of the net

• The Golden Eagles would find the back of the net for the final time in the 84th minute when DeCanio found space at the top of the box for an opportunity off the pass from Ruffini to put it up and over the keeper to secure the 3-0 victory

• SJLI accumulated 42 shots to Purchase's six

• The Golden Eagles amassed 12 corner kicks, with the Panthers having just two
