Women's Soccer Stopped By Manhattanville on Saturday

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) women's soccer team was topped by Manhattanville, 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Top performers

• Junior Emma Furey scored the lone goal for the Golden Eagles

• Junior Brooke Esposito added one assist

• Jennifer Xiong of the Valiants finished with a game-high two goals

• Manhattanville's Stefanie Sanches totaled one goal

• Kelly Barrera and Megan Leser of Manhattanville each secured one assist 

How it happened

• As the two teams remained tied early the Golden Eagles looked as if they would strike first, with two corner kick opportunities in the first ten minutes and Alyssa Ramcke putting one on goal but was turned away by Macey Girard

• With back-to-back shots off target for the Valiants, Xiong would find success off the pass from Leser to pull ahead early

• Just ten minutes later SJLI would respond with Furey finding space for a chance off the pass from Esposito to put it past the keeper to tie the game at one

• The first half coming to an end, Manhatanville's Xiong would record her second goal of the game off a pass from Barrera in the 42nd minute

• The Valiants picked right back up where they left off when Sanchez scored an unassisted goal to bring the lead to 3-1

• St. Joseph'slooked to bring the game within one when Julia Cruz took a shot but was turned away by Girard to secure Manhattanville's victory

• SJLI finished with nine shots compared to Manhattanville's 14

• The Valiants held a four to two corner kick advantage 

• One yellow card was handed out to St. Joseph's
