Women's Soccer Dominates on Senior Night

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) women's soccer team cruises to a shutout victory over Yeshiva University on Monday evening.

Top performers
  • Junior Brooke Esposito recorded three assists in the match to become the program's all-time leader in assists 

  • Senior Carli LoNigro finished with a game-high three goals

  • Freshman Abigail Butler and Alexis Pasciuta totaled two goals 

  • Sophomore Alyssa Schimmenti and freshman Nicole DeCanio each tallied one goal and one assist

  • Sophie Dubin of the Maccabees accumulated 19 saves facing 29 shots on goal

How it happened
  • The Golden Eagles started the game by finding the back of the net three separate times within the first 15 minutes of action, with Cruz opening up the scoring column with a shot deep outside the box

  • Pasicuta would collect her second goal of the game as the freshman was able to dribble past multiple defenders and beat the keeper for the fourth goal of the match

  • As SJLI was awarded a free kick it was Esposito who sent it into the box that found the head of Schimmenti to deflect into the bottom corner of the goal

  • St. Joseph's Butler would bury a goal to end the first half as well to start the second half as they built on their lead to 8-0

  • As the second half was coming to a close LoNigro found space for an opportunity at the top of the box for a goal and just minutes later saw another chance just outside the box to secure the 10-0 victory for the Golden Eagles

  • Seniors Julia Cruz, Alessandra Melendez, Alyssa Ramcke, and LoNigro were all honored in a pre-game ceremony 

  • SJLI finished the match with 47 total shots 

  • The Golden Eagles added 15 corner kicks
