The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's basketball team dropped a 76-69 non-conference contest to Baruch College at the Danzi Center on Tuesday evening.

Top performers
  • Junior Spencer Malloy led the Golden Eagles with 19 points and nine rebounds
  • Juniors Ryan McNeely and Xavier Allen each collected 13 points, with Allen adding six rebounds and six assists
  • Senior Jake Guadiello recorded a game-high three steals
  • Baruch's Michael Gannon shot 10-for-12 from the field and was 3-for-3 from three-point territory finishing with a game-best 23 points with nine rebounds
  • Sayeed Osorio led all players with 10 rebounds while adding six points
How it happened
  • The first half featured a back-and-forth battle, with the game tight for the first 11 minutes
  • The Golden Eagles led by as much as six in the first half (11:26), but the Bearcats went on a 13-0 run to take a 26-19 advantage
  • Baruch's Akil Vaughnn capped the scoring with 11 seconds left in the opening frame sending the Bearcats into the break up by 10, 42-32
  • The visitors continued their momentum to begin the second half increasing their lead to a game-high 14 points for the third time on a three-point shot by Gannon at the 13:46 mark 
  • Graduate Matthew Hirdt's three-pointer 16 seconds later began a 9-0 run that brought the Golden Eagles within five, 55-50
  • The Bearcats led 69-60 with four minutes remaining before the Golden Eagles went on a 9-2 run by a pair of made three throws by freshman Justin Turner to trim the deficit to two points, 71-69
  • That would be the closest SJLI would get as the Bearcats went 5-for-6 at the free throw line in the final two minutes

  • The Bearcats shot 52% from the field and 36.8% from three-point range while shooting 17-for-23 (73.9%) at the free-throw line
  • St. Joseph's posted a 42.2% shooting percentage converting 27-of-64 from the field
  • SJLI outscored the Bearcats 37-34 in the second half

The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, November 17, as they host York College for a non-conference match-up in the Danzi Center at 7:00 pm.
