Men's Hoops Takes Three Straight with 68-60 Win Over Purchase

Results:

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's basketball team earned a 68-60 Skyline Conference win at SUNY Purchase on Saturday afternoon.

Top performers:

• Junior Xavier Allen dropped in a game-best 23 points on 6-for-11 shooting while grabbing nine rebounds
• Junior Spencer Malloy came away with 16 points and eight boards
• Sophomore Alec Tabada rounded out the top scorers with 12 points, seven rebounds and a game-best four assists
• Matthew Phillips led the Panthers with a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds 

How it happened:

• The Panthers led by as many as seven in the opening minutes, before Tabada got the Golden Eagles on the board at 15:05
• Seven unanswered points followed putting the visitors ahead 9-7 about midway through the half
• Purchase held the final lead of the half, 25-22, at the 3:44 mark before the Golden Eagles went on an 8-4 run to close out the frame leading 30-29
• The second half saw both teams exchanging buckets giving SJLI a slight 55-54 advantage with just over four minutes on the clock
• Back-to-back threes from Matthew Hirdt put the Golden Eagles ahead 61-54 with 3:06 left and solid free throw shooting by St. Joseph's captured the 68-60 win

Notes:

• St. Joseph's shot 43.3% from the field while going 25.0% from three-point range
• Purchase posted a 30.9% shooting percentage overall and 20.7% from beyond the arc
• St. Joseph's had 21 bench points compared to Purchase's 17
• Today's game saw 11 tied scores and 15 lead changes
