Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's basketball team scored a season-high 91 points in a 91-55 win over SUNY Old Westbury in a conference match-up at the Danzi Center on Tuesday evening.

Top performers:
  • Junior Ryan McNeely scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Golden Eagles and added nine rebounds

  • Junior Spencer Malloy scored 20 points to go along with eight rebounds

  • Junior Xavier Allen contributed a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds

  • Three different players also scored in double-digits for Old Westbury, with Carl Damour, Timothy Park, and Chris Smith each scoring 10 points

  • Zachary Cummings and Max Weinberg each added six rebounds for the Panthers

How it happened:
  • St. Joseph's jumped out in front and took a 11-0 lead, with Graduate Matthew Hirdt providing six of those points on a pair of three-pointers

  • The hosts proceeded to go on a 12-0 run that was capped by a three by McNeely at the 8:31 mark, as they led 28-4

  • The Golden Eagles increased their lead to 35-8, then the Panthers scored 15 of the final 22 points scored in the half. Eight of those 15 were scored by OW's Park

  • St. Joseph's still held a lead of 19 as they finished the half up 42-23

  • Malloy scored the Golden Eagles' first six points of the second half, as the hosts went on an 18-9 run in the first eight minutes of the half to increase their lead to 60-32 on an Allen layup at the 12:05 mark

  • Following a timeout, the Panthers responded with a 7-0 run before SJLI went on a 13-2 run, powered by Malloy's eight points, that put St. Joseph's ahead by 32 (73-41) at the 7:22 mark

  • Sophomore Nick Nemickas scored seven points in the game's final three and a half minutes to help the Golden Eagles maintain a significant lead

  • Sophomore Chris Connors' free-throw with 10 seconds remaining gave St. Joseph's their largest lead of the game at 36 (91-55), which is how the game ended

Notes:
  • St. Joseph's shot 50% (34-for-68) from the field and 52.9% from three-point range

  • SUNY Old Westbury was limited to a 29% shooting percentage and shot just 18.2% from beyond the arc

  • The Golden Eagles had 41 bench points compared to Old Westbury's 27

  • Malloy scored 14 points in the second half, going 7-for-13 from the field, and grabbed seven rebounds in the half
