Men's Basketball Picks Up Skyline Win Over Mt. St. Mary, 91-63

Results:

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's basketball team picked up a 91-63 Skyline Conference win at Mt. St. Mary College on Thursday evening.

Top performers:
  • Junior Xavier Allen finished with a game-best 26 points on 10-for-17 shooting while grabbing nine rebounds
  • Sophomore Alec Tabada knocked down 10-of-13 from the field for 25 points and completed a double-double with 13 rebounds
  • Senior Jake Gaudiello led all players with nine assists and four steals
  • Connor Cyran led the Knights with 15 points and Jayden Racca added double digits with 10 points and a team-high five rebounds
How it happened:
  • St. Joseph's led wire-to-wire starting with a 10-0 run to open the game
  • A three from MSMC's Chris Yearwood briefly cut the deficit to single digits (10-3), but back-to-back threes from Guadiello put the Golden Eagles ahead 16-3
  • SJLI built their first 20-point lead (28-8) of the night after Tabada knocked down a free throw after drawing a foul on his layup with just under 12 minutes left in the half
  • St. Joseph's maintained their distance from the Knights for the remainder of the frame and went into the break leading 54-28
  • The second half saw much of the same with the Golden Eagles grabbing their largest lead of the night (65-28) at the 16:18 mark
  • The Knights put together their largest scoring run just before the midway point in the half closing the gap to 68-47
  • Minutes later, MSMC's Matthew Walsh put the hosts within 17 (76-59), but the Golden Eagles would go on to close out the game by outscoring the Knights 16-3 for the 91-63 win
Notes: 
  • St. Joseph's shot a season-high 58.3% from the field while going 38.5% from three-point range
  • Mt. St. Mary posted a 41.1% shooting percentage overall and 25.0% from beyond the arc
  • The Golden Eagles matched a season-best 24 assists as a team
  • St. Joseph's had 41 bench points compared to MSMC's 27
