Women's Basketball Drops Skyline Contest with USMMA

Kings Point, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's basketball team slipped to 2-8 overall, 0-5 Skyline on Saturday afternoon falling to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy 71-46 on the road.

An SJC offense that shot 30.2% from the field was led by freshman Alyssa Adomaites with 22 points on 9-for-19 shooting.

Sophomore Alyssa Signor contributed 12 points going 4-for-5 from the field and finished 4-6 from the free-throw line.

The Mariners were powered by Madison Demos, who recorded a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Lauren Hunter scored 13 points and grabbed a game-best 11 rebounds. Taylor Hightower pitched in with 16 points and Lauren Hunter rounded out the top scorers with 13 points and a game-best 14 boards.

After a closely played opening frame that saw the Golden Eagles leading, 16-15, the guests' struggles came in the second quarter when they were outscored 25-7 and went into the break trailing by 17, 45-23.

SJC rebounded in the third, but ultimately succumbed to hosts 71-46 at the final buzzer.

In light of being outshot 42.0% to 30.2% from the field, SJC was the better team from the charity stripe where it held a 71.4% to 68.8% shooting percentage advantage.  

The Golden Eagles return to the Danzi Center on Saturday, January 11 when they host Manhattanville College for a Skyline Conference contest at 1:00 pm.
