Women's Basketball Outpaced by Manhattanville

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's basketball team dropped a Skyline Conference matchup with Manhattanville College, 86-70, in the Danzi Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles slide to 2-10 on the season and are still in search of their first conference win at 0-7. The Valiants improve to 11-1 overall and 7-1 in Skyline action.

Freshman Alyssa Adomaites led all players with 27 points on 8-for-16 shooting while going 9-for-11 from the free-throw line. The guard also finished with six rebounds and two assists.

Sophomore Alyssa Signor dropped in 20 with four boards and three assists. Senior Juliana Cintron-Leonardo rounded out the top scorers with 10 points and five rebounds.

Manhattanville's Sarah Coutu recorded a team-best 26 points going 7-for-15 from the field and a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity stripe. Faith Johnson-Desilvia finished with 16 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Spencer Shore and Jamie Smith added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

An Adomaites layup with just under two minutes left in the opening frame gave the Golden Eagles its largest lead of the game at 14-7. The Valiants went on to close out the quarter on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 14-13.

The two sides traded the lead a couple of times to begin the second quarter and a 7-0 streak saw the visitors take a three-point advantage, 25-22, midway through the frame. Both sides would exchange buckets down the stretch and the Valiants would go on to take a 37-33 lead into the break.

Struggles ensued for the Golden Eagles in the third as they were outscored 32-16 to head into the fourth trailing 69-49. SJC would go on to win the fourth quarter 21-17 but were unable to catch the Valiants ultimately falling 86-70.

Manhattanville outshot the Golden Eagles 45.2%-37.7% from the field with a 46.7%-22.2% advantage from beyond the arc.

The Golden Eagles return to the Danzi Center on Tuesday, January 14 when they host Sarah Lawrence College at 7:30 pm.
