Women's Basketball Participates in Community Service Events

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's basketball team participated in a pair of community service events supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

The Golden Eagles helped raise over $750 for a five-year-old from Ronkonkoma, NY named Carlben who was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder. His wish is to go to Walt Disney World with his family.

"We are excited to announce that Carlben's dream to go to Disney World will come true as a result of the support from St. Joseph's College women's basketball," stated MAW's Community Relations Manager Joanne Coppola.

"I want our team to see that we are so much more than just a basketball team," explained head coach Vicki Andruszkiewicz. "We have the power to impact others and we will continue to do so however we can- big or small. We are really humbled by the fact that our work allowed a child to go with his family on a vacation to Disney World."

The Golden Eagles also participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk held at Jones Beach State Park. This event raises awareness and funds to save lives from breast cancer.

"Again, we wanted to show our team that life is bigger than basketball and a small act of kindness can go a long way," Andruszkiewicz continued. "We have athletes on our team who have family members affected by or currently battling breast cancer and we want them to know they are not alone. We hope to work with the American Cancer Society to raise money and awareness for breast cancer in the future."

Coach Anduszkiwicz and the Golden Eagles are set to host Manhattanville College in the Danzi Center on Saturday, January 11.
