W. Soccer Falls to Monclair in Non-Conference Play

Montclair, N.J. - It was another disappointing loss for the Golden Eagle women's soccer team (1-6-1) last night, as they lost 5-0 to the Montclair State Red Hawks (7-1).

The Golden Eagle offense looked mum for most of the game, only posting two shots on goal.  The first shot came off the foot of freshman Kristin Carroll (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) in the second minute of the game.  From the looks of things, it seemed as if the Golden Eagles were going to get off to a great start.  However, due to great defensive play by the opposing Red Hawks, St. Joseph's would not get another legitimate chance until shortly after the break at halftime. This is when freshmen Claire Brady (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) came out of the gates red hot, bringing the ball into Montclair State territory and ripping a strike within the first 14 seconds into the second half.

St. Joseph's keeper, junior Katie McGarrell (Selden, N.Y./Newfield), was under fire all night.  Playing the full 90 minutes, she was faced with 14 shots on goal, seven times the shots that the Golden Eagle offense had.   On the season, McGarrell has recorded 49 saves, posting a respectable 66% save percentage.  This is considering the fact that she has been pressed with 74 shots in just the first seven games, an average of slightly above 10.5 opposing shots on goal.  It has been a tough last three games for the SJC goalies, but SJC hopes things will turn around as the team heads back home this weekend.

The Golden Eagles look to get a much needed win this Saturday, September 27 as they square off with the Mount Saint Mary College's Knights in a Skyline Conference matchup. In a conference that is so close, getting a win this Saturday will help keep SJC in the middle of the pack in the Skyline standings.  The game time is 1:00 p.m. at the Danzi Stadium at the Outdoor Field Complex.
