Farmingdale Eliminates W. Soccer in Skyline Tournament Ending SJC's Season

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The top-seeded Farmingdale State (13-5-3) women's soccer team defeated St. Joseph's (7-12-3), 6-0, this afternoon in the semifinal round of the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament. The Rams clinched in a berth in the finals which will take place during the Skyline Fall Festival at Purchase College on Saturday.  The loss ends the season for the Golden Eagles.

After the Rams narrowly missed on a few early opportunities, Farmingdale State's Amanda Khare connected on a header off the long crossing pass by Alexandria Tudisco to take a 1-0 lead with 27:23 remaining in the first half.

With 16:28 left to play, the Rams (13-5-3) increased their lead to 2-0 on an Andrea Kiefer header off a corner kick by Melissa Lijo.

In the 42nd minute, Lijo put Farmingdale State ahead by three after scoring in the top right corner of the net from 40 yards out. Only 2:09 later, sophomore forward Ashlee Thompson scored off a feed from junior midfielder Brianne Borthwick to open up a 4-0 advantage.

Farmingdale State outshot the Golden Eagles 15-2 and held an 8-0 corner kick advantage as they took their 4-0 lead into the break.

Early in the second half, Farmingdale's Alena Gannon scored off a rebound from Taylor Howard's shot to increase the lead to 5-0.  Howard tacked on a second half goal to cap off the 6-0 win for the Rams.

A busy Katie McGarrell made nine saves for SJC, while Farmingdale's Breanna Blair totaled one.

The Rams will now face the winner of #2 Mount Saint Mary/#3 Sage in the Skyline Tournament Finals at Purchase on Saturday, November 8 at 11:00 a.m.  The winner of the championship game receives the conference's automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.
