Mt. St. Vincent Dolphins Narrowly Swim Past W. Soccer, 3-2

Riverdale, N.Y. — In the end, it was the Mt. St. Vincent Dolphins (9-2-0, 2-1-0 Skyline) who thrived in the wet weather as the Golden Eagles (2-8-2, 1-3-0 Skyline) fell 3-2 to their fellow Skyline Conference competitors in Friday's match.

SJC threw the first punch late in the first half. Claire Brady's (Center Moriches, N.Y./ Center Moriches) perfectly placed corner kick found teammate Jennifer Martino (East Patchogue, N.Y./ Bellport) in the box, who then found the back of the net to put the Eagles in the lead. The Dolphins had an answer within minutes, however, and the game was tied at one by the halftime buzzer.

Early in the second half MSV scored off of a penalty kick, taking the lead for the first time in the match. The Dolphins created even more of a buffer with another goal at 76:03.

Down by two but refusing to give up, the Golden Eagles fought to get back in the game.  With less than a minute left, Joann Murino (Bohemia, N.Y./ Connetquot) dribbled into the box and expertly sent a shot right over the keeper's head, bringing the score to 3-2.

SJC's keeper Katie McGarrell (Selden, N.Y./ Newfield) made four saves over the course of the night.

The Dolphins closed out the game with a 20-16 edge in shots overall and a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Golden Eagles took two of the three corner kicks in the game, while fouls in the game went against the Mount 13-7.

The Golden Eagles will travel to the College of Staten Island on Tuesday before hosting Farmingdale State on Thursday for an exciting Skyline Conference match-up at 7 p.m.
