Women's Basketball Opens Season with 96-53 win over Hunter

Patchogue, NY| Junior Alyssa Adomaites dropped in 41 points to guide the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team to a 96-53 season-opening win over Hunter College in the Danzi Center on Wednesday evening.

Head Coach Kerry Connolly begins his tenure at SJC at 1-0 as the Hawks open the season at 0-1.

Adomaites finished just shy of the SJC single-game scoring record on 16-for-27 shooting from the floor and 7-for-11 from three-point range. The guard added nine rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

Senior Alyssa Signor opened her final campaign with a 25-point performance with eight rebounds and three assists. Sophomore Lanyah Ford rounded out the top scorers with 15 points, seven boards, and four assists.

Kimberly Lau turned in 15 points to lead the Hawks while providing six rebounds and three assists. Erin Cosio was a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor and converted her only free throw to finish with 11 points while pulling down six boards.

Both sides exchanged baskets to start the game, but an 18-2 run in favor of the Golden Eagles put the hosts ahead 22-6 with just over two minutes in the first quarter. SJC went on to close out the frame with a 20-point advantage, 29-9. The Hawks closed the gap in the second quarter outscoring the Golden Eagles 22-20, but SJC went into the break leading 49-31.

St. Joseph's held Hunter to just four points in the third and went into the final quarter ahead 71-35. Adomaites drained a three with 5:41 left in the game to give the Golden Eagles their largest lead of the night, 87-40, before going to secure the 96-53 win.

SJC shot 44.2% as a team from the field, 42.9% from beyond the arc while holding the Hawks to just 25.8%. A dominant performance down low saw the home team outrebounding Hunter 54-42 with a 50-20 advantage in the paint.

The Golden Eagles return to the Danzi Center on Saturday, November 13 when they host John Jay at 1:00 pm.
