Women's Basketball Holds Off USMMA for 71-65 Win

Kings Point, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team started 2022 with a 71-65 Skyline Conference win over the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Thursday evening.

The Golden Eagles improve to 8-3 on the season with a 5-3 record in Skyline play. The Mariners move to 8-3 overall, 6-3 Skyline.

Sophomore Lanyah Ford knocked down a team-best 21 points on 7-for-15 shooting from the field. The guard added five rebounds and a pair of steals.

Junior Alyssa Adomaites finished with 20 points including a 9-for-11 showing at the free-throw line. Senior Alyssa Signor rounded out the top scorers with 14 points while leading the Golden Eagles with nine rebounds.

Junior Julianna Knice dished a team-best five assists while freshman Brianna Cordell posted a game-best eight blocks.

The Mariners were led by a 25-point 15-rebound double-double from Grace Jackson.  Madison Demos recorded a double-double of 15 points with a game-high 20 boards with Madison Reddick putting down 11 points and 13 rebounds.

The six-point advantage in the opening frame, 14-8, proved to be the difference in the contest as the second quarter was even at 22. Both sides took turns claiming the third and fourth quarters by a basket allowing the Golden Eagles to claim the 71-65 victory.

SJC finished outshooting the Mariners 36.9% to 28.4% from the field with a 29% to 14.3% advantage from three-point range. The home team pulled down 63 rebounds to SJC's 43 with a 30-26 point in the paint advantage.

The Golden Eagles resume Skyline play on Thursday, January 13 when they travel to SUNY Old Westbury. Game time is set for 8:00 pm.
