Women's Basketball Falls to CMSV in Overtime Thriller

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team dropped their first game in the Danzi Center to the College of Mt. St. Vincent in overtime on Wednesday evening.

The 74-71 loss moves the Golden Eagles to 5-2 on the season and 2-2 in conference play. Mt. St. Vincent improves to 6-1 overall, 4-1 Skyline.

The Golden Lions were led by junior Alyssa Adomaites with 31 points. Senior Alyssa Signor finished with 14 points with nine rebounds with sophomore Lanyah Ford rounding out the top scorers with 13 points. Junior Julianna Knice dished a team-best seven assists with freshman Brianna Cordell grabbing a season-high 12 boards.

The Dolphins were led by a 32-point performance from Amber Been who completed a double-double with 10 rebounds and a game-high eight assists. Dez Brown pitched in with 12 points while Victoria Hanley and Melanieann Broderick added 11 points apiece with the latter pulling down a game-best 23 boards.

Deadlocked at 58 with 1:30 left in regulation, SJC's Ford drained a three from the corner to put the Golden Eagles ahead 61-58. CMSV's Brown laid in a bucket with 33 seconds on the clock to inch the Dolphins to within one, 61-60, before Adomaties made one of two free throws seconds later for a 62-60 advantage. A Dolphin timeout advanced the ball up the court where Been tied the game at 62 sending the teams into overtime.

After the Dolphins pulled ahead 72-69 with back-to-back triples with less than two minutes left in the extra frame, both Ford and Adomaites dropped in one of two free throws inching the Golden Eagles to within one, 72-71. But CMSV's Been answered with two free throws of her own leaving just 21 seconds on the clock to secure the 74-71 win.

In a game that saw neither side with a lead in double figures, the Golden Eagles finished shooting 30.7% from the field and the Dolphins with a slightly better 32.1%. CMSV had a strong presence down low outrebounding SJC 65-45, 34 points in the paint, and 13 second-chance points.

St. Joseph's resumes Skyline Conference play on Saturday, December 4 when they host sister school St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn at 1:00 pm.
