Women's Basketball Falls Short at Farmingdale, 93-84

Farmingdale, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team came up short in a Skyline Conference matchup with Farmingdale State College on Saturday afternoon.

The 93-84 loss moves the Golden Eagles to 12-8 on the season and 9-8 in conference play. The Rams improve to 10-8 overall, 8-8 Skyline.

SJC had five Golden Eagles finish in double digits with junior Alyssa Adomaites knocking down 18. Sophomore Lanyah Ford recorded 16 points with five boards. Senior Alyssa Signor finished with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds with four steals while freshman Brianna Cordell posted her second straight double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds while recording three blocks. Felicia Barreiros pitched in with 12 points off the bench.

The Rams were led by a 36-point performance from Layla Mendoza who completed a double-double with 11 boards while dishing four assists. Samantha Muller came away with 29 points and 14 rebounds with Anna Zaborowska adding 16 points.

A closely played game that saw 12 lead changes had the Golden Eagles trailing by just three, 65-62, heading into the fourth quarter. Both sides exchanged baskets to open the frame and a layup from Adomaites with 4:21 on the clock put SJC ahead 75-74. Seconds later, the Rams responded and Mendoza's layup put the hosts back on top 76-74. Neither side would lead by more than five until the final minute of play where clutch free-throw shooting from the Rams in the final seconds secured the 93-84 win.

As a team, the Golden Eagles shot 24.1% from the field with the Rams knocking down 39.5%.

The Golden Eagles return to the Danzi Center on Tuesday, February 15, and host SUNY Old Westbury at 7:30 pm.
