Women's Basketball Topped by USMMA, 71-48

The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team lost a 71-48 Skyline Conference decision against Merchant Marine on Tuesday evening in the Danzi Center.

The Golden Eagles fall to 10-5 on the season with a 7-5 conference record. The Mariners improve to 14-3 overall, 10-3 Skyline.

Junior Alyssa Adomaites led the Golden Eagles recording 21 points with sophomore Lanyah Ford adding 11 points and a team-high 9 rebounds.

The Mariners were led by Grace Jackson with a near triple-double of 22 points, 17 rebounds, and eight blocks. Madison Reddick finished with a double-double of 14 points and 11 boards. Julia Dahlke rounded out the top scores with 13 points.

The first frame was a tight-knit affair, with the Mariners holding a slight 13-11 advantage. The Golden Eagles took their first and only lead of the night at 07:40 in the second quarter when Brianna Cordell made a layup to move the score to 16-15 in favor of the home team. However, the visitors proceeded to go on a 16-2 run to take a 31-18 lead heading into the break.

The Golden Eagles scored 17 points in the third quarter to stay within range but still found themselves down 15 at the end of the quarter. A 21-point fourth quarter from the Mariners secured a 71-48 victory for the visitors.

The Mariners shot 39.7% from the field while holding SJC to just 23.9%. SJC held the advantage in three-point shooting, with a 16% mark to the Mariners' 8.3% mark.
