Women's Basketball Breezes By Old Westbury, 97-71

Farmingdale. NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team claimed a 97-71 Skyline Conference win on the road over SUNY Old Westbury on Thursday evening.

The Golden Eagles improve to 9-3 on the season with a 6-3 record in conference play. The Panthers move to 4-4 overall, 3-4 Skyline.

SJC had four Golden Eagles finish in double figures with junior Alyssa Adomaites knocking down a team-best 22 points on 8-for-16 shooting from the field. Senior Alyssa Signor finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Junior Catherine Siounis provided 17 points off the bench going 8-for-9 from the floor. Junior Julianna Knice rounded out the top scorers with 14 points while dishing four assists. Freshman Brianna Cordell grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds and three blocks.

The Panthers were led by a 24-point performance by Cherish Francis. The guard dished a game-high eight assists and led OW with seven boards. Ashley Cattle and Melinda Harris both finished with 14 points with Ja'Nya Flash adding 13.

Despite falling behind 8-0 to open the game, the Panthers caught up to the Golden Eagles, 8-8, midway through the first quarter. Both sides would exchange the lead over the ensuing minutes until Signor dropped in a layup with 1:30 on the clock sparking 8-0 run that would close the quarter with SJC ahead 24-15.

After being held to just two points in the first quarter, Adomaites led the Golden Eagles with 12 points in the second frame guiding the visitors to a 52-36 advantage into the half.

St. Joseph's limited the Panthers to just eight points in the third quarter and despite being outscored 27-21 in the fourth, the Golden Eagles cruised to a 26-point win.

SJC shot 52.4% from the field while holding OW to just 33.3% and finished with a 51-38 rebound advantage.

The Golden Eagles continue Skyline action when they host Manhattanville College on Tuesday, January 18 at 7:00 pm.
