Lopez Named Skyline Runner of the Week, Carney and Degni on Weekly Honor Roll

New York, NY| Senior Matt Lopez of the St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's cross country team was named Skyline Conference Runner of the Week as announced on Tuesday morning.

Additionally, sophomore Deirdre Carney (women's volleyball) and junior Marissa Degni (women's cross country) landed on Weekly Honor Rolls in their respective sports.

Matt Lopez (Sr.) - Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week

Lopez finished second at the 22nd Annual SJNY Invitational at Sunken Meadow State Park on October 15 with an 8k time of 27:58.1. The senior was the best Division II or III runner at the event, bested only by Monroe's Karim Belmahdi. Lopez and the Golden Eagles finished second in a field of 20 competing teams.

Deirdre Carney (So.) - Women's Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll

Through two matches last week, Carney had 20 kills, averaging 2.22 kills-per-set, and recorded a team-leading .395 hitting percentage. The sophomore was credited with a team-best five blocks and knocked down a team-high 14 kills--while hitting .367--in a five-set thriller with Farmingdale on October 13.

Marissa Degni (Jr.) - Women's Cross Country Weekly Honor Roll

Degni was seventh in the women's 5k race at the SJNY Invitational with a time of 20:52.4. She was the best Division III runner in the event and helped power St. Joseph's to a third-place finish.
