Baseball Suffers Non-Conference Loss to Kean, 8-4

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) surrendered five runs in the eighth resulting in an 8-5 non-conference loss to Kean University at Gregg Alfano Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles slide to 1-4 on the season as the Cougars improve to 15-4.

Two runs in the top of the first put the Golden Eagles down early, but the home team moved the game back to even, 2-2, plating a run in the first and second.

An RBI single from Phil Krpata (1-for-5, R, RBI) followed by an RBI triple by Brian Forbes (2-for-5, R, RBI) in the bottom of the fourth put St. Joseph's ahead 4-2.

Kean's Mike Lapczynski sent a solo shot to right inching the Cougars to within one, 4-3.

After two scoreless innings, Kean's Steve Petrosh capitalized on a couple of walks surrendered by SJC reliever Kevin Yohe (0-1) when he doubled to center putting KU ahead 5-4. Later in the inning, a pinch-hit three-run dinger from P Marcantoni gave the Cougars some breathing room and moved the game to its final 8-4.

SJC sent five pitchers to the mound with Yohe getting tagged with the loss after allowing five runs on two hits in less than an inning of relief.

Kean's Nick Nemes earned the win after tossing four innings of scoreless relief.

The Golden Eagles begin Skyline Conference play on Saturday, March 26 when they host the United States Merchant Marine Academy. The doubleheader is slated to start at 11:00 am.
