Baseball Falls in NCAA Regional Opener

POSTGAME PRESS CONFERENCE 

Winchester, VA| The Golden Eagles suffered a 10-3 loss to #21 Shenandoah University in the opening round of the NCAA Regional Tournament in at Bridgeforth Field on Friday afternoon.

The loss moves the Golden Eagles to 23-13 on the season as the Hornets improve to 35-10-1.

The Golden Eagles were first on the board courtesy of a solo shot to right of the bat of Brian Forbes (2-for-4, R, RBI) in the top of the first.

The Hornets were held scoreless by SJLI starter Kevin Czeczotka (4-3) their first two trips to the plate but went on to string together six hits for six runs in the bottom of the third.

Forbes and Ryan Decoursey (2-for-4, R, 2 RBI) both reached on one-out singles in the top of the fourth, but Shenandoah's Jacob Faivre (9-1) retired the next two hitters via the strikeout to end the threat.

A two-RBI double to left from SU's' Ryan Clawson (2-for-3, 3 RBI) in the bottom half of the fourth extended the host's lead to 8-1.

The game went scoreless through the next three and a half innings before a solo home run from Frankie Ritter (2-for-4 2 R, RBI) and a sacrifice fly later in the inning moved the game to 10-1.

Down to their final out, Decoursey blasted a two-run shot to left to move the game to its final 10-3.

The Golden Eagles will face the loser of Catholic University and Stevens Institute of Technology in an elimination game Saturday, May 21 at 11:00 am.
