Baseball Names Five to Skyline All-Conference Teams, Garrett Selected Coach of the Year

New York, NY| Five members of the St. Joseph's University (L.I.) baseball team earned Skyline All-Conference accolades when the conference released its end-of-season awards on Monday morning. Head Coach Richard Garrett was named Coach of the Year.

Juniors Ryan Decoursey and John Lynch along with senior Nick Vicino graced the First-Team while senior Kevin Czeczotka and junior Paul Gugliuzzo appeared on the Second-Team. Senior Mike Badala was named to the All-Sportsmanship team.

Decoursey, a 2021 All-Conference selection, posted the third-best batting average in the conference (.442) and recorded the second-highest slugging percentage (.721). The shortstop led the Golden Eagles in RBIs (35), runs (35), home runs (7), and hits (46).

Lynch hit .462 good for second in the Skyline and 14th nationally. The designated hitter sits with 23 RBIs, a team-leading 12 doubles, 22 runs scored, and a .641 slugging percentage.

Vicino finished the regular season hitting .393 with 33 hits, 23 RBIs, and 33 runs scored. The first baseman has posted a .548 slugging percentage with 11 extra-base hits and boasted a .986 fielding percentage committing just three errors in 222 total chances.

In 42.2 innings and seven appearances this season, Czeczotka, a 2021 All-Conference selection, posted a 4-2 record with a 2.95 ERA. The starting pitcher struck out 41 batters and held the opposition to a .218 batting average. 

Gugliuzzo checked in at third on the Golden Eagles and sixth in the Skyline with a .404 batting average with 42 hits while posting a .538 slugging and a .480 on-base percentage. The outfielder knocked in 20 runs while scoring 32 and was 17-for-18 in stolen bases. 

In his ninth season at the helm, Garrett guided the Golden Eagles to the Skyline Conference regular-season title after posting a 15-5 conference record and earning the top seed in the Championship tournament at Gregg Alfano Field May 13-15.
