Baseball Falls Twice to CMSV on Sunday

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) baseball team dropped a pair of Skyline Conference contests, 6-5 and 14-5 to the College of Mt. St. Vincent at Gregg Alfano Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles slide to 15-10 on the season with a 13-5 Skyline mark. The Dolphins improve to 20-14 overall, 9-7 Skyline.

Game One: SJLI 5, CMSV 6

Both sides plated a run in the first inning before a two-RBI double from CMSV's Matt DiNorcia put the Dolphins ahead 3-2 in the top of the second.

SJLI's Phil Krpata (1-for-3, R, RBI) doubled to left in the bottom half of the inning scoring Michael Badala (1-for-3, R) who singled earlier in the inning to inch the Golden Eagles to within one, 3-2.

St. Joseph's took advantage of a Dolphin defensive miscue in the bottom of the fourth to knot the score at three before taking a 5-3 lead via a Nick Vicino (2-for-4, R, 2RBI) two-out two-RBI single through the left side in the fifth.

An SJLI error in the top of the sixth led to a three-run inning for the visitors that ultimately secured the 6-5 win for the Dolphins.

CMSV's Sean Kennedy tossed all seven innings allowing five runs on 11 hits with 10 strikeouts. SJLI's Ryan Foran took the loss surrendering six runs, three earned, on 11 hits with three Ks.

Game Two: SJLI 5, CMSV 14

Mt. St. Vincent's jumped to an 8-1 lead after the first two innings in the nightcap. A bunt single plated another run for the Dolphins in the fourth before back-to-back RBI singles from Joe Sanguedolce (2-for-4, R, RBI) and Hermes Abreu (1-for-4, RBI) and a sac fly from John Thatcher (RBI) led to a three-run bottom half the inning cutting the deficit to five, 9-4.

CMSV went on to push runs across in four of the final five innings taking a 14-4 advantage into the bottom of the ninth where John Lynch (3-for-5, R, RBI) doubled in Paul Gugliuzzo (2-for-3, R) moving the game to it's final, 14-5.

CMSV's Aidan Rice picked up the win allowing only one run on five hits with nine strikeouts in five innings of relief.  SJLI's Luke Gacovino suffered the loss.

The Golden Eagles return to Gregg Alfano Field when they host New Jersey City University for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 26. Game one is slated to start at 4:00 pm.
