Baseball Splits with St. Joseph's-Brooklyn

Brooklyn, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team finished with a Skyline Conference split with St. Joseph's College College-Brooklyn on the road on Saturday afternoon.

SJLI dropped a 3-1 contest in game one before bouncing back for a 12-2 win in game two. The Golden Eagles move to 12-8 on the season with an 11-3 Skyline mark. The Bears now sit at 4-20 overall, 2-10 Skyline.

Game One: SJLI 1, SJBK 3

After the Golden Eagles left the bases loaded in the top of the first, SJBK pushed a run across in the bottom half of the inning.  Lucas Collet doubled with two outs for Louis Lombardi who knocked him in with a single in the right-center gap.

The Bears strung together three hits in the bottom of the third producing a pair of runs to extend their lead to 3-0.

SJLI broke through when a Bears fielding error with the bases loaded led to a run in the top of the third inning moving the score to 3-1.

The Golden Eagles stranded runners in each of the final four innings, but they were unable to capitalize ultimately falling 3-1.

SJLI's Paul Gugliuzzio went 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored. Phil Krpata and Nick Vicino accounted for the Golden Eagles' only other hits.

Starting pitcher Kevin Czeczotka was tagged with the loss allowing three runs on six hits with six strikeouts. SJBK's Louis Lombardi picked up his first win of the season allowing just one run on four hits with nine Ks in a complete-game effort.

Game Two:

The Bears were first to score in game two after plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.

SJLI batted around for six runs in the top of the fourth. Joe Sanguedolce (3-for-4, 2 R, 3 RBI) doubled in a couple of runs courtesy of a single to left. Two batters later an infield single from Krpata (2-for-3, R, 2 RBI) brought home Hermes Abreu (R). Gugliuzzo (1-for-5, 3 RBI) followed up with a bases-clearing triple to left pushing the score to 6-2.

The Golden Eagles added three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings cruising to a 12-2 victory.

SJLI's Charles Aurandt improved to 3-0 on the season after allowing just two runs on two hits in five innings. Ryan Foran allowed just one hit with two strikeouts in two innings of relief.

St. Joseph's-LI returns to Gregg Alfano Field on Tuesday, April 19 when they host John Jay College in a non-conference match-up.
