Baseball Takes Down No. 19 Ithaca, 6-1

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) baseball team earned a 6-1 win over No. 19 Ithaca College at Gregg Alfano Field on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Eagles scored five runs in the seventh inning to break the 1-1 tie and take the lead.

Key Players:
  • Senior Nick Vicino went 1-for-3 at the plate with a home run, two RBI's, two runs scored, and a walk
  • Junior Joey Sanguedolce finished the game 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI
  • Senior John Lynch went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run
  • Sophomore Dante Morabito allowed one earned run in seven innings of work for the Golden Eagles, yielding six hits and a walk with one strikeout to pick up the win
  • Sophomore Jack Kelly pitched two shutout innings in relief to earn the save
  • Riley Brawdy and Garrett Callaghan both had multi-hit games for the Bombers, with Callaghan collecting the only RBI of the game for Ithaca
How it happened:
  • The Bombers scored the game's first run in the top of the third, as Callaghan singled to left field to plate Brawdy
  • St. Joseph's knotted the game at one apiece in the fifth inning, with Vicino coming in to score on a fielders' choice off the bat of Sophomore Anselmo Joya
  • The Golden Eagles' bats came alive in the seventh to score five unanswered runs. Senior Ryan Decoursey got the rally started with a double to right-center
  • After Decoursey advanced to third on a passed ball, Lynch ripped a single to right field to score Decoursey to give St. Joseph's their first lead of the day
  • Next up was Vicino, who mashed a two-run home run over the right field fence to extend the lead to 4-1
  • Sanguedolce went back-to-back with Vicino following a pitching change, as he connected with a home run of his own for a solo shot to extend the lead to 5-1
  • A few batters later, Graduate Hermes Abreu advanced to third on a wild pitch and came around to score on an error by the second baseman for an insurance run to go ahead 6-1
Notes:
  • Morabito earned the win on the mound for the Golden Eagles and Kelly converted the save
  • St. Joseph's collected nine hits, while Ithaca had seven hits
  • Ithaca committed two errors in the game
