The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) baseball avenged their first loss of the season with an 8-2 non-conference win over Kean University at Gregg Alfano Field on Wednesday afternoon.

How it happened:

The Cougars were first on the board in the top of the first. After two quick outs to start the inning, a walk followed by back-to-back singles produced the game's first run

St. Joseph's managed to produce a pair of runs in the bottom of the third without recording a hit to go ahead 2-1.

SJLI's Maggio started the bottom of the fourth with a double to center and came into score on an RBI single to right by Hermes Abreu

Back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the fifth increased the Golden Eagle lead to 4-1

In the bottom of the sixth, Abreu drew a walk followed by an infield single by Krpata put two on with just one-out. After falling behind in the count, the Cougars opted to intentionally walk Paul Gugliuzzo to load the bases for Decoursey who then cleared them with a 3 RBI double to center

The Golden Eagles added an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh to widen the gap to 8-1

Kean pushed a run across in the top of the ninth to move the game to its final 8-2

Senior Ryan Foran came in for four innings of relief allowing one run on three hits with two strikeouts

Kean's Tyler Mendez was tagged with the loss after surrendering three runs on four hits with four walks in 3.2 innings
