Baseball Shuts Out John Jay, 10-0

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) baseball team claimed a 10-0 non-conference win over John Jay College at Gregg Alfano Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Key Players:
  • Senior Jake Giannico went 2-for-3 with a grand slam 

  • Sophomore Chris Lettiere was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, an RBI, and a run scored

How it happened:
  • St. Joseph's opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the second. Sophomore Chris Lettiere doubled to the right-center gap bringing home junior Joe Sanguedolce who worked a walk earlier in the inning

  • Freshman Joe Hackal led off the bottom of the third with a bunt base hit and advanced on a failed pick-off attempt before Paul Gugliezzo walked putting two runners on with no outs. Sophomore James Maggio lined a base hit into center that was misplayed resulting in both runs scoring. An RBI single up the middle by Jake Giannico scored Maggio extending the lead to 4-0

  • The Golden Eagles capped the scoring with six runs in the bottom of the fourth highlighted by a grand slam to right by Giannico

Notes:
  • St. Joseph's sent eight Golden Eagles to the mound scattering four hits with nine strikeouts. Peter Manger got the win and improves to 4-0.

  • John Jay's Marc Weeks was tagged with the loss allowing four runs on four hits

Next up, the Golden Eagles will resume Skyline Conference play when they host St. Joseph's-Brooklyn for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 22 at 11:00 am.
