Baseball Claims Non-Conference Win over Lehman, 19-6

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) baseball team claimed a 19-6 non-conference win over Lehman College on Saturday afternoon. 

Key Players:
  • Senior Paul Gugliuzzo went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and three runs scored 

  • Senior Ryan Decoursey finished the game 3-for-6 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored 

  • Joe Sanguedolce, Jake Giannico, and John Thatcher all had multiple hits for the Golden Eagles 

  • Senior Anthony Cinquemani earned his third win of the season allowing four runs on six hits with four strikeouts

  • Ranssel Pinedo and Elias Femin both had three-hit games for the Lightning

How it happened:
  • The Golden Eagles were first on the board with a run in the second before a four-run top of the third capped by Decoursey's two-run homerun widened the gap to 5-0

  • A solo shot by Lehman's Femin put the Lightning on the board in the bottom half of the third

  • The Golden Eagles strung together six hits in the top of the fourth producing eight runs for a 13-1 advantage

  • Lehman got three runs back in the fifth courtesy of a two-run blast from Nomar Rijo and an RBI single from Justin Nunez moving the score to 13-4

  • Both sides pushed a run across in the seventh before a five-run top of the eighth highlighted by a two-RBI double off the bat of James Maggio put SJLI ahead 19-5

  • Lehman added a run in the bottom of the ninth before St. Joseph's Josh Dannenberg got Nunez to ground into a double play ending the game at 19-6

Notes:
  • The Golden Eagles collected 14 hits, while the Lightning had 11

  • Lehman committed four errors in the game to SJLI's one

  • St. Joseph's Michael Manzolillo, Jack Kelly, and Josh Dannenberg all made appearances out of the bullpen 

Next up, the Golden Eagles host an exhibition game against Nassau County Community College on Monday, March 20 at 4:00 pm.
