Women's Basketball Starts Season with a 79-67 Win Over Yeshiva

Results:

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) women's basketball team opened their season with a 79-67 win over Yeshiva University in a Skyline conference matchup at the Danzi Center on Sunday afternoon. 

Top performers:
  • Senior Alyssa Adomaites scored a game-high 28 points and recorded a career-best nine steals with seven rebounds, and six assists to lead the Golden Eagles
  • Junior Lanyah Ford collected 20 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season
  • Freshman Megan Spina recorded six rebounds, three assists, and three steals in her collegiate debut
  • Yeshiva's Yuval Nitzan recorded a double-double of 20 points and 15 rebounds
  • Shai Rahamim scored 18 points for the Maccabees, and Daniella Rothman recorded a game-high 17 rebounds 
How it happened:
  • At the end of a tight first quarter, the Golden Eagles took a 17-15 lead with 18 seconds on the clock on a three-pointer from senior Julianna Knice, then Rahamim's buzzer-beater for Yeshiva put the Maccabees ahead 18-17 to finish the first frame
  • Yeshiva remained in control in the second quarter, finishing the half up 38-34
  • Yeshiva led by as many as 11, 49-38, in the third quarter, but St. Joseph's chipped away eventually retaking the lead in the frame's final five minutes. Adomaites' made free throw at the 1:09 mark tied the game at 53 apiece, then Knice's jumper shortly after gave the Golden Eagles their first lead since the first quarter, 55-53
  • After finishing the third quarter down by two, St. Joseph's went on an 11-0 run to begin the fourth quarter, with Adomaites scoring seven to take a 66-57 lead
  • The Golden Eagles maintained the lead for the remainder of the game, leading by 10 on three occasions in the quarter before finishing the game up by 12, 79-67
Notes:
  • The Golden Eagles shot 10-for-16 in the fourth quarter to help them outscore Yeshiva 24-10 in the frame and 45-29 in the second half.
  • Adomaites was 5-for-5 from the field and scored 12 of SJLI's 24 points in the final frame
  • SJLI finished the game with a 39.2% shooting percentage and 20% from beyond the arc.
  • The Maccabees shot 36.8% from three-point range and 32.4% overall and shot 70% from the free throw line.
