Women's Basketball Downs Dolphins, 47-44

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball held on to a 47-44 Skyline Conference win over the College of Mt. St. Vincent on the road on Tuesday evening. 

Top performers:
  • Junior Lanyah Ford led the Golden Eagles with an 18-point performance on 8-for-16 shooting
  • Seniors Alyssa Adomaites and Julianna Knice finished with nine points apiece
  • Freshman Megan Spina grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and added three assists
  • CMSV's Amber Been knocked down a team-high 18 points 
  • Kira Villegas finished with a double-double of ten points and ten boards
How it happened:
  • The teams went into the half knotted at 24 after both quarters ended 15-9
  • SJLI opened the third frame with nine unanswered points capped by a three from Knice, 33-34
  • The Golden Eagles held a 39-31 lead into the final quarter, but an 8-0 run in favor of the Dolphins cut the advantage to just one, 42-21, at the 5:42 mark
  • The teams stayed within three points of each other in the final minutes, but an Adomaites free throw with just eight seconds on the clock iced the game for the Golden Eagles  
Notes: 
  • Neither side shot over 30% from the field with the Golden Eagles holding CMSV to just 26.8%
  • The Dolphins outrebounded SJLI 52-36, but the visitors held an 18-14 advantage in the paint 

The Golden Eagles return to the Danzi Center when they host Mt. St. Mary College for a Skyline Conference match-up on Saturday, December 3rd at 1:00 pm.
