Women's Basketball Falters at MSMC

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball team suffered a third Skyline Conference loss, 77-51 on Saturday afternoon. 

Top performers:
  • Senior Alyssa Adomaites scored a team-high 12 points to go along with two assists, two rebounds, and one steal

  • Junior Lanyah Ford recorded nine points and tied a team-high seven rebounds 

  • Senior Julianna Knice pitched in six points, tying a team-high seven rebounds and a team-leading three assists 

  • Katie Smith of Mt. St. Mary had a game-high 19 points and six assists 

  • The Knights' Kate Hughes completed the double-double with 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds 

How it happened:
  • The game began with a back-and-forth battle, with Ford and Adomaites scoring 15 of the Golden Eagles' 18 points 

  • SJLI would gain the slight edge heading into the second, 18-16

  • The Knights started the second quarter strong going on a 10-2 run, capped by a layup from Brianna Guglielmo at the 5:45 mark

  • St. Joseph's  would score just five total points in the second compared to MSMC's 16 points

  • The Golden Eagles would enter the third quarter down by nine points but would fall behind as much as 26 points at the 1:19 mark

  • Mt. St. Mary's would produce their biggest offensive output in the third scoring 28 points 

  • Hughes would help propel the Knights to build their lead by dropping 13 points in the third quarter 

  • Megan Spina would open the fourth quarter scoring with a layup before the Knights answered with six straight points 

Notes:
  • St. Joseph's shot 28.3% from the field and 26.3% from three-point range

  • The Knights recorded a 40% shooting percentage and 17.4% from beyond the arc

  • The Golden Eagles shot 12-for-17 (70.6%) on free throws, while Mt. St. Mary's went just 13-for-17 (76.5%) on free-throws

  • SJLI recorded eight assists compared to MSMC's 18 assists

  • Mt. St. Mary's outscored St. Joseph's 48-18 in the paint 

  • The Knights outrebounded the Golden Eagles 52-38
