Women's Basketball Falls Short at Manhattanville, 65-49

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball team dropped a Skyline Conference game to Manhattanville on Saturday afternoon. 

Top performers:
  • Senior Alyssa Adomaites scored a team-high 19 points, adding four rebounds, one steal and one block

  • Junior Lanyah Ford provided 12 points while tying a team-high six rebounds 

  • Senior Catherine Siounis added seven points as well tying a team-high six rebounds 

  • Junior Jamison Agostino led the Valiants in scoring with 22 points

  • Senior Julianna Kascic collected a game high 15 rebounds, while dishing a game high five assists 

How it happened: 
  • The Valiants would start the game strong with going on a 10-3 run in the first two minutes of the game, with Agostino scoring the first eight of ten points 

  • Adomaites would hit a three in the final minute of the first quarter to give SJLI the lead heading into the second 

  • The second quarter saw both teams scoring in bunches as Manhattanville outscored St. Joseph's 15-14, going into halftime tied at 29

  • Manhattanville's Amanda Orlando scored six points early in the third quarter helping the Valiants go on a 12-2 run 

  • The Golden Eagles would rally with baskets from Siounis and Ford late to bring the deficit to just four points at the end of the third 

  • SJLI would get into foul trouble in the fourth quarter with the Valiants shooting 18 free throws making 14  

  • Manhattanville would go on to outscore the Golden Eagles in the final quarter with the Valiants scoring 19 and holding SJLI to just seven points 


Notes: 
  • The Golden Eagles shot 29.6% from the field with the Valiants shooting 35.1%

  • Manhattaville held a 50 to 35 rebounding edge over the Golden Eagles 

  • The Valiants doubled SJLI's offensive rebounding efforts with a 14 to seven effort

  • St. Joseph's had seven assists on the day compared to Manhattaville's 15

  • The Valiants received 14 points from their bench, while SJLI's bench scored four points
