Women's Basketball Season Ends in Semifinals to USMMA, 82-56

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball season ends in the semifinals of the Skyline Conference Playoffs to USMMA, 82-56.

Top performers:
  • Senior Alyssa Adomiates finished with 13 points, three rebounds, one assist, and a team-high two steals 

  • Senior Julianna Knice contributed 11 points while adding four rebounds, one assist, and one steal 

  • Junior Lanyah Ford added 11 points, with a team-high seven rebounds and one assist 

  • Freshman Megan Spina provided nine points, two rebounds, one assist, and one steal

  • The Mariners were led by Grace Jackson who finished with 18 points, five rebounds, four assists, one steal, and two blocks 

  • Madison Demos shot 6-12 from the field for a total of 15 points and tied a game-high 15 rebounds 

  • Lauren Hunter finished with a double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds 

How it happened:
  • The first quarter saw the Mariners jump out to an early lead, with a 13-4 run in the first five minutes of action, which was halted by a three-point shot from Spina

  • USMMA would again pull ahead by as much as 13 but a late three-pointer from Knice would bring SJLI to within 10

  • The Golden Eagles would start the second quarter behind but with a 10-5 run midway through the second quarter they would bring the lead to within five

  • The Mariners would respond with a scoring run themselves by outsourcing St. Joseph's 12-2 in the final five minutes of the first half 

  • The second half opened up with both teams trading baskets but would soon see USMMA pull ahead by 24 points with two minutes left in the third quarter 

  • Adomaites would go on to score the last six points in the final two minutes of the quarter to bring the Golden Eagles to within 20 

  • United States Merchant Marine Academy would score nine points in the fourth quarter shooting 7-7 from the free throw line as the Mariners coated to victory

  • St. Joseph's shot  25.8% from the field  compared to the United States Merchant Marine Academy which shot 41.3% from the field 

  • USMMA outrebounded SJLI 59-30

  • The Golden Eagles shot 7-31 (22.6%) from three-point range 

  • The Mariner shot 5-16 (31.3%) from beyond the arc

  • United States Merchant Marine Academy recorded 18 assists compared to St. Joseph's six assists 

  • USMMA scored 16 points in the paint with the Golden Eagles scoring 10 points in the paint
