Women's Basketball Picks Up Conference Victory Over St. Joseph's Brooklyn, 85-57

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball team picked up an 85-57 win over St. Joseph's University (BK) in a Skyline Conference match-up at the Danzi Center on Saturday afternoon.

Top performers:
  • Junior Lanyah Ford led the way for the Golden Eagles, scoring a game-high 22 points on 10-for-20 shooting from the field while adding seven rebounds

  • Seniors Julianna Knice and Alyssa Adomaites each scored 12 points in the win, with Knice grabbing eight rebounds and going 4-for-5 from three-point territory, and Adomaites picking up four steals

  • Two additional Golden Eagles finished in double-digits, as Freshman Megan Spina and Sophomore Felicia Barreiros added 10 points apiece

  • Sophomore Hannah Greene contributed eight boards, which was tied for the game-lead

  • Kristen Donovan scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds for St. Joseph's Brooklyn

  • Destiny Hurt added 15 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, while Grace Kennedy contributed eight rebounds

How it happened:
  • The first five minutes of the game featured seven lead changes, with Knice scoring the first six points for the Golden Eagles

  • SJLI took a 12-11 lead on a Ford layup at the 5:34 mark, which began an 11-0 run for the hosts to take a lead of 10 (21-11)

  • St. Joseph's Brooklyn scored five of the final six points scored in the quarter, but the Golden Eagles finished the quarter ahead 22-16

  • In a back-and-forth beginning of the second quarter, the Golden Eagles saw their lead shrink to four before they went on a 9-1 run to increase their lead to 33-21 on a Spina layup at the 3:02 mark

  • A three-point play for Ford put SJLI back up by ten (36-26) with 45 seconds on the clock, before the hosts went into the half ahead by seven (36-29)

  • The Bears trimmed the lead to four points (38-34) after scoring five of the first seven points of the quarter

  • A three-point play for SJBK's Aaniya Telford and a three-point shot by Kristen Donovan cut the hosts' lead to one (41-40) at the 6:07 mark

  • Knice instantly responded with a three of her own, which started a 14-0 run to extend the lead to 15 (55-40) with 2:42 remaining in the frame. Ford scored seven points during the run

  • After the Golden Eagles finished the third in front 60-46, they continued their momentum in the fourth by going on a 12-2 run to begin the frame. Barreiros' three-point basket capped the run at the 5:16 mark and gave the hosts a 72-48 lead

  • The Golden Eagles finished the game with a 28-point advantage for their largest lead of the afternoon, which came on Barreiros' layup with 24 seconds remaining.

Notes:
  • St. Joseph's L.I. shot 44.3% from the field and 45% from three-point range

  • St. Joseph's Brooklyn posted a 33.3% shooting percentage from the field and 24.1% from beyond the arc

  • The Golden Eagles held the advantage in rebounds (51-42) and points in the paint (34-20)

  • SJLI received 27 bench points, while SJBK had four bench points
