The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team claimed a 72-66 overtime Skyline Conference win against Mt. St. Mary College in the Danzi Center on Saturday afternoon.
Top Performers
- Junior Lanyah Ford led the Golden Eagles turning in a 20-point performance completing the double-double with a career-high 20 rebounds
- Senior Alyssa Adomaites contributed 15 points going 3-for-5 from three-point range
- Senior Catherine Siounis added a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds
- Freshman Megan Spina and senior Julianna Knice pitched in with nine points apiece with the latter dishing a game-best six assists
- The Knights were led by Erin Smith and Brianna Guglielmo both finishing with 10 points
How it happened
- After a back-and-forth start to the game, the Golden Eagles and the Knights were knotted at 13 at 2:34 in the first. The Knights went on an 8-3 scoring run to end the quarter, taking a 21-16 advantage into the second frame
- St. Joseph's battled to keep the game close, but still found themselves trailing by six with Mt. St. Mary's taking a 34-28 lead at halftime
- A bucket from Smith with just under seven minutes in the third gave MSMC their largest lead of the day, 41-30
- Shortly after, the Golden Eagles went on a 14-2 scoring run capped by an Adomaites three to put them ahead for the first time since the early portion of the second quarter, 44-43
- The Golden Eagles and the Knights spent the rest of the quarter trading one-point leads, with MSMC's Kaeli McAnally hitting a layup at the buzzer sending the visitors into the final frame ahead 49-48
- Adomaites scored the first five points of the fourth quarter, giving the home team a 53-49 lead early in the frame. Minutes later, sophomore Hailey Clancy broke a 53-53 stalemate with a three-ball to put SJLI back on top, 56-53
- The Knights climbed back to take a four-point advantage, 63-59, with just 1:44 left to go in the game
- Buckets from Ford and Adomaites tied the game at 63 before a free throw from Knice put the Golden Eagles ahead with 35 seconds left
- An MSMC free throw tied the game with 14 seconds left. After a Mary's time out, Siounis intercepted a pass and sent the ball up to Ford whose layup rimmed out as the final horn went off sending the game into overtime
- The Knights were 0-for-11 from the field in the extra frame, only managing to convert on a pair of free throws.
- Trailing by one, Ford's layup with just over a minute on the clock gave the Golden Eagles a 67-66 advantage. Seconds later, sophomore Isabella Sierra provided some breathing room when she drained a three from the corner putting the hosts ahead 70-66
- Ford iced the game for the Golden Eagles with a pair of free throws in the final seconds bringing the score to its final, 72-66

- The Golden Eagles won the battle on the boards 60-49
- As a team, St. Joseph's shot 40.6 % from the field and 36.4% from three while holding the Knights to 29.3% from the field and a stingy10.0% shooting from beyond the arc
- Today marked just the second Golden Eagle win over MSMC since the 2015-16 season
