Women's Basketball Falls to Bowdoin on Thursday

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball team suffered a 93-55 loss to Bowdoin College in a non-conference match-up at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility in the NYU holiday classic on Thursday evening.

Top performers:
  • Junior Lanyah Ford led the Golden Eagles with 15 points and shot 7-for-10 in free throws

  • Senior Alyssa Adomaites scored 10 points to go along with six rebounds and a pair of steals

  • Senior Catherine Siounis added eight points and grabbed six rebounds

  • Three different players scored in double-digits for Bowdoin, with Sydney Jones leading the team with 15 points

  • Maria Belardi scored 13 points and collected six steals for the Polar Bears, and Annie Boasberg added 11 points and led all players with eight rebounds

How it happened:
  • Bowdoin College took a 14-8 lead in the first five minutes of play, then went on an 8-0 run to finish the quarter up by 12 (22-10)

  • SJLI came as close as seven points to Bowdoin's lead in the second quarter, with Siounis' pair of made free-throws with 15 seconds on the clock trimming the deficit to 47-40

  • The Golden Eagles out-scored Bowdoin in the second, 30-28, but were still down by 10 at the half

  • St. Joseph's remained about 10 points away for the first two minutes of the third quarter, then the Polar Bears went on a 21-3 run to finish the quarter to take a 76-49 lead. Belardi scored nine of those 21 points during the run

  • Bowdoin scored 17 of the 23 points scored in the fourth quarter, with SJLI shooting just 1-for-15 from the field in the quarter, to finish the game with a 93-55 victory over St. Joseph's to improve to 8-1 on the year

  • Bowdoin's Starlette Franklin made a layup with 2:31 remaining in the fourth to take their largest lead of the game of 41 points (93-52)

Notes:
  • Bowdoin College shot 42.9% from the field, while limiting St. Joseph's to a 25.4% shooting percentage

  • The Polar Bears went 12-for-32 (37.5%) from three-point range and SJLI went 7-for-29 for a 24.1% percentage from beyond the arc

  • Bowdoin had 13 different players score points, with nine of them scoring at least five points each

  • The Polar Bears out-scored St. Joseph's 36-14 in the paint while collecting 14 steals against SJLI's six

Next up, the Golden Eagles play their second and final game of the NYU Holiday Classic on Friday, December 30 at 1:00pm against Stockton University.
