Strong Fourth Quarter Propels Women's Basketball to Victory

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball team defeated Yeshiva University, 68-58, on Tuesday evening.

Top performers:
  • Senior Alyssa Adomaites led the Golden Eagles with 19 points to go along with four assists, three rebounds, one steal, and one block 

  • Senior Julianna Knice shot 5-8 from three-point range and scored 17 points while adding eight rebounds, one assist, and one steal 

  • Junior Lanyah Ford provided 13 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and one steal

  • Freshman Megan Spina contributed a game-high 14 rebounds, a team-high six assists, and one steal

  • Daniella Bessler finished with a double-double scoring 22 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, also added two steals and two blocks  

  • Yuval Nitzan provided the Maccabees with 13 points, five rebounds, and a game-high seven assists 

How it happened:
  • The first quarter saw a back-and-forth battle when Yeshiva took a 6-4 lead at the 4:25 mark until St. Joseph's went on a 9-0 run to end the quarter 13-6

  • The Maccabees would come within two points in the third quarter but Emma Kelly would provide a spark off the bench for the Golden Eagles scoring eight points in the quarter and helping extend their lead to eight at halftime

  • SJLI would start the third quarter strong pushing their lead to 12 points until the Maccabees responded by going on an 11-0 run which was halted by an Adomaites jump shot 

  • Yeshiva would take the lead back from St. Joseph's in the final two minutes of the third entering the final frame with a three-point advantage 

  • The fourth quarter began with Knice and Nitzan trading three-pointers, keeping both teams close 

  • Adomaites would drop in a three bringing SJLI to within one of Yeshiva, that's when Knice would hit back-to-back threes giving the Golden Eagles a five-point lead

  • Clutch free throws down the stretch iced the game for St. Joseph's as Ford, Knice, and Adomaites scored all 28 points for the Golden Eagles with Knice and Adomiates scoring 11 each

Notes:
  • St. Joseph's shot 32.4% from the field and 32.3% from three-point range

  • Yeshiva posted a 30.0% shooting percentage while shooting 14.3% from beyond the arc

  • The Golden Eagles went 14-for-18 (77.8%) on free throws, while the Maccabees went just 13-for-15 (86.7%)

  • St. Joseph's outrebounded the Maccabees 52-46

  • Yeshiva outscored SJLI in the paint 28-20

  • The Golden Eagles provided 17 bench points compared to the Mac's six points

  • SJLI recorded 18 assists, while Yeshiva recorded 13 assists 

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, February 18 when they take on Manhattanville in a conference match-up at the Danzi Center at 6:30 pm.
