The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) women's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest at John Jay College 75-64 on Tuesday evening.
Top performers:
- Junior Lanyah Ford collected a game-best 22 points on 9-for-21 shooting from the field and eight rebounds
- Senior Alyssa Adomaites added a 20-point performance with two assists and two steals
- Freshman Megan Spina pitched in with nine points and six boards
- John Jay's Bobbi Greene and Chayanne Kelly both finished with a team-best 15 points with Greene grabbing 12 rebounds
- Katie Healy recorded a double-double of 12 points and a game-high 19 rebounds
How it happened:
- A slow start saw the Golden Eagles trailing by nine, 11-2, early in the first quarter
- An Adomaites bucket at the 2:27 mark gave the Golden Eagles their first lead of the night, but the Bloodhounds closed out the frame on a 9-2 run for a 24-18 lead
- SJLI would go on to outscore John Jay 14-11 in the second quarter and went into the break trailing 35-32
- A strong showing in the third quarter saw the Golden Eagles holding the lead for 6:38 while holding the Bloodhounds to 5-for-20 from the field. A 5-0 SJLI streak closed the frame with St. Joseph's leading 55-50
- After falling behind early in the final frame, a pair of Spina free throws would inch the Golden Eagles to within one, 60-59, halfway through. John Jay would manage to maintain their distance and held on for the 75-64 win
Notes:
- The Golden Eagles shot 26-for-77 from the field with just a 3-for-17 showing from three-point range
- John Jay finished shooting 28-for-63 and held a 55-41 rebounding advantage
