Women's Basketball Bounces Back with Win over Stockton

Lanyah Ford scored a career-high 28 points as the St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball team earned a 66-56 win over Stockton University in a non-conference match-up at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility in the NYU Holiday Classic on Friday afternoon.

Top performers:
  • Ford enjoyed a 28 point performance and grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double to lead the Golden Eagles. Ford went 12-for-12 on free-throws, with eight coming in the final quarter

  • Senior Alyssa Adomaites added 17 points and five rebounds

  • Senior Catherine Siounis also landed in double-digits with 11 points along with seven rebounds

  • Stockton's Madison Larosa went 7-for-13 from the field and scored a team-high 20 points

  • Emma Morrone added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Ospreys

  • Adriyana Jennings and Madison Dulude contributed double-digit rebounds, with Jennings grabbing 12 and Dulude contributing 10 for Stockton

How it happened:
  • St. Joseph's built a 7-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game

  • Stockton came back and tied the game at nine about halfway through the quarter, then took their first lead (12-9) at the 3:40 mark when LaRosa made a three-point shot.

  • The Ospreys went on a 16-5 run to finish the quarter up by six (20-14)

  • After Stockton scored the first four points of the second, SJLI scored 13 of 20 points scored to finish the quarter, coming as close as two points with five seconds on the clock, as they finished the half down by four (31-27)

  • The Golden Eagles went on an 8-2 run to begin the third quarter, with Ford's jumper at the 5:45 mark giving SJLI a 35-33 lead for their first lead since the first five minutes of the game.

  • The Ospreys went on a 10-0 run that saw Stockton take 43-35 lead, before St. Joseph's scored the final seven points of the quarter to come within one (43-42)

  • After Siounis tied the game at 44 with a layup about 30 seconds into the fourth quarter, Adomaites made a three-point shot about a minute later (8:36) to give the Golden Eagles a 47-44 advantage.

  • Morrone of Stockton tied the game at 49 apiece with 5:36 remaining with a pair of made free-throws, then the game was tied again at 53 with 2:24 on the clock

  • St. Joseph's fell behind, then sophomore Felicia Barreiros made a three-pointer at the 1:24 mark that put SJLI up 56-55 before the Ospreys tied the game back up at 56 on a free-throw.

  • Ford put the Golden Eagles back in front with a layup with 1:04 remaining (58-56), which would be a lead they'd never give up.

  • Ford made all eight free-throws to pad SJLI's lead in the final 24 seconds of the game, as St. Joseph's secured a 66-56 victory in the final game of the NYU Holiday Classic.

Notes:
  • St. Joseph's shot 33.3% from the field and 23.8% from three-point range.

  • Stockton posted a 25.8% shooting percentage from the field and 20.8% from three-point territory.

  • The Golden Eagles shot 82.1% (23-for-28) on free-throws, while Stockton went 17-for-26 for a 65.4% shooting percentage on free-throws.

  • St. Joseph's shot 6-for-10 from the field and 10-for-12 on free-throws in the final quarter with Ford going 8-for-8 on free-throws.
